In honor of Rocktober we sat down with the most prolific time keeper in rock history, Tico Torres. While you may know him as Bon Jovi’s thunder handed drummer, those that know a thing or two about rock music remember him from his days beating the skins for Power Station, perhaps the best rock band ever.
SD: Tico, thanks for taking the time to talk with us.
Tico: Thanks for having me. Halloween is an important part of my life. I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate it than to talk to you.
SD: So, what are you dressing up as for Halloween?
Tico: Well, it’s a Monday, so that it pilot and flight attendant night with the little lady. Ha ha. Actually, this year I am going to go as Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker. I know it is lame to use the same costume two years in a row, but the guy is a genius.
SD: You really do get into Halloween, don’t you?
Tico: Let’s just say that Halloween wasn’t great when I was a kid. I didn’t like the way my uncle asked me to trick or treat with him in the basement, so I am making the most of Halloween now.
SD: Since you are such a big fan of Halloween, do you have anything you would like to share with our readers?
Tico: Certainly. First off, make sure your kids are dressed in safe costumes that have reflective material on them. I find that most of the store bought pimp outfits and Hooter’s girl costumes reflect a lot.
Also, spend the time to decorate a pumpkin with your kids. We gather around the pumpkins and tell our maid, Judith how we want to decorate the pumpkin. As a family we don’t condone violence so we don’t cut the pumpkins unless we plan to eat them. Instead we treat them like a Mr. Potato Head. I like it when Judith cuts ping pong balls in half, takes a black marker and makes an eye out of them. She usually uses candy corn for teeth and a carrot for a nose. Since our pumpkins usually look pretty similar, I prefer to have a vibrator as the nose – it really adds personality.
