Dear Dr.:
My 4 year-old broad winged hawk seems to be down in the dumps. He no longer enjoys chasing the neighbor's dog or dining on stray cats. He just sits on my arm silently looking kind of depressed. I believe he might have that Asian Bert Flu that the news keeps talking about. I have been giving him Theraflu to drink, but he just doesn't seem to be the same. Any suggestions?

Dear Hurtin' Hawk:
Broad winged hawks are one of my favorite raptors. When I was a child, I had a BW that I used to steal candy for me at school. They are wonderful pets for families without other pets or small children. It sounds like your BW has sick-bird syndrome. I suggest supplementing his diet with high quality rats and some Centrum. Also take him to a nice park or mall where he can get out and stretch his wings a bit.
