KEY LARGO, Fla. - South Florida residents breathed a sigh of relief early Wednesday after Tropical Storm Ernesto confounded forecasters by lumbering ashore without the hurricane-strength winds once feared.
Once on land, Ernesto was immediately greeted by members of the Florida Citrus Council and given a job picking fruit for $.40 a week.
