Deep Thinking: With Todd

Todd

In light of Barack Obama's historic speech, I am thinking about calling a press conference to tell people that my race shouldn't be an issue either. That I do not need preferential treatment when ordering ribs or soul food, just because I am white. Nor do I feel that I should be singled-out on the dance floor because I like the Gap Band and can do dance moves other than the "white man's overbite."

I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together, drink a six-pack of Busch and watch Larry The Cable Guy movies in Harmony.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice and that I will see white men dressed in mustard colored - 11 button Steve Harvey suits and that black men will visit George Zimmer at Men's Wearhouse for a tastefully fitted 2 button suit that comes in natural colors.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their iPod. That black children can listen to Asia and Journey without scrutiny and white children are welcome to stand under Rihanna's umbrella.

I have a dream today.
