I just returned from the Joel Siegel services. I think Joel's passing was kind of lost in the shuffle with everything else in the world going on. Admittedly, I was late to the service as I found a great deal on shoes at Macy's. While you will never hear anyone criticize a funeral service directly, I have seen better. I am certain Joel would have given it less than two tubs of popcorn.
Rather than writing my own review of the services, I thought I would tweak a few snippets that Joel has written over the years and stitch them together to describe how I felt as I sat there viewing his very gray, very dead mustache.
The service, an unabashed homage to Frank Capra. There's a reason even in the 1930's they called his movies 'Capracorn,' but, even though I argued with the ending, this one got to me. The funeral was less entertaining, less enlightening and less educational than any I have attended. It was a bloody mess if I’ve ever seen one.
I’ll leave you with this suggestion for his tombstone. It’s a snippet of some of Joel’s best work, “You never know where Changing Lanes is going to take you but it's a heck of a ride. Samuel L. Jackson is one of the best actors there is."
